Speak with Thought and Care (In the Light of Hadith)

“Hazrat Bilal bin Harith al-Muzani (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: One of you may utter a word that pleases Allah which he does not consider very significant, yet because of it Allah decrees His pleasure for him until the Day of Resurrection. And one of you may utter a word that displeases Allah which he does not consider very significant, yet because of it Allah decrees His displeasure for him until the Day of Resurrection.” (Jami‘ al-Tirmidhi)

“Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: A servant may utter a word seeking the pleasure of Allah which he does not consider important, but because of it Allah raises his ranks; and a servant may utter a word that brings the displeasure of Allah which he does not care about, but because of it he falls into Hell.” (Sahih al-Bukhari)

“Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: A servant may utter a word without thinking, because of which he falls into Hell farther than the distance between the East and the West.” (Sahih Muslim)

“Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: A person utters a word and considers no harm in it, but because of it he falls into Hell a distance equal to seventy years.” (Jami‘ al-Tirmidhi)

“Hazrat ‘Amr bin al-‘As (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: I have been commanded to speak briefly, for brief speech is better.” (Sunan Abi Dawud)

“Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should speak good or remain silent.” (Sahih al-Bukhari)

“The noble wife of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Hazrat Umm Habibah (may Allah be pleased with her), narrates that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: All of a person’s speech is against him—meaning a cause of accountability—except enjoining good, forbidding evil, or the remembrance of Allah.” (Jami‘ al-Tirmidhi)

“Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Do not speak excessively except in the remembrance of Allah, for excessive speech without the remembrance of Allah hardens the heart; and the one farthest from Allah among people is the one whose heart is hard.” (Jami‘ al-Tirmidhi)

“Hazrat Mughirah bin Shu‘bah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: Allah has disliked three things for you: engaging in idle talk, wasting wealth, and asking too many questions.” (Sahih al-Bukhari)
