Virtues of Wudu (In the Light of Hadith)

Wudu – The Adornment of the Believer

Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه said: I heard my beloved Prophet ﷺ saying: The adornment of the believer on the Day of Resurrection will reach the places where the water of Wudu reaches; meaning that the limbs washed in Wudu will be adorned up to that extent.
(Sahih Muslim)

The Radiance and Light of the Muslim

Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه reported that I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: My Ummah (nation) will be called on the Day of Resurrection with their faces, hands, and feet shining due to the traces of Wudu. So whoever is able to increase his radiance should do so.
(Sahih al-Bukhari)

Sins Depart from the Body

‘Uthman ibn ‘Affan رضي الله عنه reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Whoever performs Wudu and performs it well—observing its Sunnah practices and etiquettes—his sins depart from his body, even from beneath his fingernails.
(Sahih Muslim)

Scholars explain that through acts of worship such as Wudu and Salah (prayer), only minor sins are forgiven. Major sins are not forgiven without sincere repentance (Tawbah). Therefore, along with Wudu and Salah, one should also remain committed to repentance and seeking forgiveness (Istighfar). However, if Allah, out of His grace, forgives major sins as well, that is a matter of His فضل (divine bounty). The topic of Tawbah and Istighfar will be discussed in detail later, In shaa Allah.

Sins Are Washed Away Through Wudu

‘Abdullah رضي الله عنه reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: When a believing servant performs Wudu and rinses his mouth, the sins of his mouth are washed away. When he cleans his nose, the sins of the nose are washed away. When he washes his face, the sins of the face are washed away—even from the roots of his eyelashes. When he washes his hands, the sins of his hands are washed away—even from beneath his fingernails. When he wipes his head, the sins of his head are washed away—even from his ears. And when he washes his feet, the sins of his feet are washed away—even from beneath his toenails. Then his walking toward the mosque and offering Salah becomes an additional means of virtue for him.
(Sunan an-Nasa’i)

Scholars interpret this Hadith to mean that through Wudu, the sins of the entire body are washed away.
